If some one asked me what the best thing in the world was my answer would be baby hugs. Babies give the purest form of love. They have no hidden agendas. They just want to give and receive love. Watching your baby take their fist steps gives unmatched joy. It is a moment you look forward to and also dread. Once they walk they just keeps going. You encourage your baby to talk. Next thing you know, you just need a moment of silence. You hide in bathrooms, closets, and bedrooms to make important phone calls. You close your eyes holding your toddler and wake up to school goer. Homework, lunches, friends, new experiences. You are so proud of them when they ace a test. You are happy that they have made a new friend. Each moment passes is filled with joy and sadness. Sadness that your baby is growing up. You find yourself longing to hold that little baby again, but they will never be a baby again. All the while, they will always be your baby. Before long, there will be boyfriends and girlfriends. Begging to go on dates or drive a car. Every time they leave the house you are praying they make good decisions. You know your mistakes of your past. All you want is for them not to repeat the same mistakes. You want their life to be better than your own. Then they graduate high school and then they have to decide whether to go to college or find a job. You try to support what ever decision they make. It is their new found adventure of adulthood. You are just on the sidelines watching. You are so proud of who they are becoming but are sorrowful that your baby is growing up and there is nothing you can do about it. You find yourself crying tears of happiness and sadness simultaneously. Not many things in life can do that to you. Just remember no matter the age they will always be your baby.
